chōchin-obake is another Yokai, which is a Japanese demon / spirit of folklore.
Originally starting off as a Japanese lantern this transforms, splitting across the middle to create a mouth. The chōchin-obake grows one or two eyes (depending on age of story). Sometimes, the chōchin would also grow a face, hands, a torso, and wings.
